CKIA’s View:
Port Canaveral in Florida has surpassed Miami as the top cruise port in the United States. According to new data, Port Canaveral saw 4.5 million passengers in 2022, while Miami saw 4.3 million. This marks the first time in more than two decades that Miami has been surpassed as the busiest cruise port in the country.
Several factors contributed to Port Canaveral’s success, including the addition of new ships and cruise lines, a focus on sustainability, and the port’s location near popular tourist destinations. The COVID-19 pandemic also played a role, with many cruise lines shifting their operations to smaller ports that were better able to handle new health and safety protocols.
The shift in rankings is expected to have a significant impact on the cruise industry in Florida, with Port Canaveral poised for continued growth and investment.
