So should you cruise with your passport or can you get away with using just your birth certificate? As long as your trip is a closed loop trip, meaning it starts in the US and ends in the US, then you could opt to use your birth certificate and some form of a valid government ID (check with your cruise line and local authorities for acceptable formats you can use) as your means of identification. The risk you will be taking is if something were to happen and you need to fly home, you would not be allowed to without a valid passport.
